1. Background:
Lack of financial services throughout the country is a major problem of economic development in Nepal. Half of the population lie below poverty line, living in rural villages. Realizing the necessity of Micro finance institution in the community, Bindhavasini Savings Fund Co-Operative Society Ltd.(BISCOL) is organized with a 55 founder members. BISCOL is a community, group and member based co-operative model Micro Finance institution established on 27th December 1993, registered under Co-Operative Act. Limited. Banking function was started on 24th October 1995 with the approval from the Central Bank. BISCOL is providing two kinds of services from four regional offices Khopasi, Panauti, Banepa and Dhunkharka.
1) Co-Operative Banking services to the members.
2) Micro Finance services to the poor women.
2. Mission:
To promote savings and mobilize credit on productive activities including social and community reforms with group concept and active group participation.
3. Vision:
Community Based Excellent, Sustainable Saccos.
4. Objectives:
- To provide simple and sound banking services to the member.
- To collect different types of savings.
- To provide credit facilities with simple process.
- To promote economic generating activities to the members.
- To run various activities for supporting the interest of the members.
- To assist in natural disasters to the members.
- To run socio-economic and community development activities in the active participation of group.
- To convene productive, skillful and educative training, workshop, seminars and conferences.
- To run activities for eliminating poverty to self help group with essential services and facility.
– To develop an A-One Competitive Choice for Excellence in Service and Soundness financial co-operative model Micro Financial institution.
5. Type of Organization and its focus:
BISCOL is a group and community based MFI organization registered under the cooperatives act 2048 to conduct micro saving and credit activities to the rural area. It has a permission of Central Bank (Nepal Rastra Bank) to conduct a limited banking transaction. Its main focus is to provide small banking services to those peoples who can not go to the banks.
6. Legal Status :
BISCOL is a Saving and Credit Cooperative society Ltd registered under the Cooperative Act 2048 from HMG co-operative district office on 27th December1993. The registration no: is 110/050/51. Banking permission received on 24th October 1995 from central bank.
7. Information system :
BISCOL has two set of computer with full performance capacity, one is Pentium III and other is Pentium IV, two printers(one laser, one dot matrix), one fax, three telephone lines in three area offices. Its current email address is biscol@ntc.net.np & URL is www.biscol.org . Biscol has 100 hrs internet service from NTC. It has no web site right now. One technician is hired to develop a software to conduct its operations. Two staffs are trained for basic software operation.
8. Members and there capital income :
Biscol Is a co-operative Micro Finance Institution, its all clients are members. Farmers, small business holders, employees, women and children are its members. The per capita income is mostly 1$ a day
